Lviv Day is celebrated on May 6-7.
Lviv is considered the cultural capital of Ukraine.
The name of Lviv comes from the word Lion and the coat of arms also depicts a lion. However, the city is not named in honor of the lion, but in honor of the son of the only king of Kyivan Rus, Danylo, who founded Lviv, by the way.
Lviv is a city with a rich history. Its main points:
From 1272 to 1349, Lviv was the capital of the Galicia-Volyn principality;
From 1349 to 1772, Lviv was part of Poland and the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth;
From 1772 to 1918 as part of Austria-Hungary;
From 1918 to 1939 as part of Poland;
From 1944 to 1991 occuppied by the USSR.
