I’d like to make a little ad for the greatest multiplayer-game in the history on internet, well at least from hockey fanatics point of view.
The game I am about to boost is Kiekko (Finnish for puck) and can be found at
http://www.kiekko.tk. Even though it is a Finnish game, it is fully in English (well you might have to change the language manually).
Well what it is?
Kiekko is basicly a java-applet game of multiplayer ice-hockey, very similar to oldtime-classic such as Wayne Gretzky Hockey, Blades of steel etc. But instead of playing against computer you play with humans so that every player in the rink are humans. Forget about 1 on1 matches in EA:s NHL-series, Kiekko is just the thing you need.
The graphics aren’t 3D and the sounds….well, that sounds, but the game…It isn’t the very realistic compared to NHL-series, but it is realistic enough.
Kiekko needs updated Java-packages, mostly Sun’s version is recommended.

Why I am advertising this? Well I am an active writer at the Finnish Ice-hockey site Jatkoaika.com that you might know and I started similar thread there about 3 months ago. The success was astonishing and Jatkoaika as a team has risen to be the biggest team in kiekko. Most of our players are college-students and even older so we have kind of a different views on when to go to bed and it is quite normal that some of hang around kiekko at 4 am. Well 4 am. in Finland is about 8/9 pm. in America so we thought that if we somehow lured you guys to play kiekko, we could have opponents even in the middle of night :).
Well kiekko isn’t just a fun since also teenagers play it, so you might find the same pricks booing for you if you fail to score like if you were playing Counter Strike or similar FPS-games. But there are also older players who will be able to communicate in English in other ways than “Fuck you n000b”, “ lol”.
I personally play with nick _varjo_ (since when I registered, there already was varjo) and have been playing for 3 months.
It is unfortunate that because of the server costs etc creating a team is chargeable today and might be bit hard to send text message if you don’t have finnish telephone operator. But contacting the maker of this game Jouko (jouko at iki . fi) you might find some kind of solution that is if you want to make hfboards-team, of course you can join to some of the "internatinal" teams that already exists.
