In Los Angeles the Rob Blake sweepstakes are in full swing. It is now expected that Blake will be dealt prior to the trade deadline however many reports indicate that he may be traded during the All Star break. The teams that are showing the most interest in Blake include the Toronto Maple Leafs, St. Louis Blues and the New Jersey Devils. To this point it appears that the Devils have made the most serious offer and as a result have the best chance at landing the super star defenseman. Rumors indicate that the Devils are offering a package that would include draft choices, Jay Pandolfo, Sergei Brylin and a prospect. Although this package may not seem like a great return for Blake it must be noted that Blake is set to become an unrestricted free agent at the closure of the season and will have the option of signing with the highest bidder. Although it presently seems like the Blues are a long shot to acquire Blake we can only imagine what the Blues blue line would look like if they were able to acquire him. They would have the strongest defense in the NHL with Blake, Pronger, MacInnis and would be a threat at all times. Although this would be an awesome sight the more likely scenario is that they will take a look at acquiring an offensive forward who can help their team score goals.
The players that the Blues will be looking at to help bolster their offense include the Mighty Ducks Teemu Selanne and Keith Tkachuk. It is well known that Selanne is available and that his days of playing in Anaheim are coming to an end. It is said that he is tired of playing for a franchise that is not willing to make the roster moves that are necessary to make the Ducks a contender. It is speculated that the Blues are looking to offer a package of players that would include Jochen Hecht, prospects and draft picks.
In the case of Keith Tkachuk there are a number of teams besides the Blues that would like to add his grit to their roster. The teams include the Flyers, Leafs, Rangers and Dallas Stars. Rumors indicate that the Leafs are showing the most interest in his services however they may not be willing to decimate their roster to add a single player.
In Vancouver rumors are heating up as the longest serving Canuck Adrian Aucoin has been benched for the past two consecutive games. Aucoin who happens to be the odd man out of the Canucks strong defensive group has been made a scapegoat by both the coach and G.M.. He was accused of not playing with intensity and not producing offensively. In actuality the reason for Aucoin’s lack of offensive production has been the emergence of Ed Jovanovski\'s offensive numbers. In any case Aucoin would be a great addition to any team and has one of the best plus minus statistics in the game this season. One of the rumors that has been mentioned is a possible deal with the Tampa Bay Lightning for Goalie Dan Cloutier. Although the Canucks appear to be in need of a goalie the most likely scenario is that Aucoin will be traded for some offensive help as their top producing center, Andrew Cassels is out three to four weeks with a broken toe. One name that continues to arise in rumors is Valeri Kamensky because of his background in Colorado with Marc Crawford.

In Ottawa there are rumors that the Senators are looking for some help on Defense. One of the names that keeps arising in rumors is Steve Duchesne. Duchesne, an experienced veteran would be able to add some much needed experience to the Senators defense and may be available for a draft choice.

In Pittsburgh a search for a reliable number one goalie continues. Some of the names that have been mentioned include Sean Burke, Irbe and Boucher.

Finally, the Florida Panthers are continuing to explore trade options as their season is beginning to slip away from them. One rumor speculates that the Hurricanes had offered the Panthers Sandis Ozolinsh as part of a package for Roberto Luongo. In any case look for the Panthers to make some moves in the near future in an effort to save their horrible season.
