Eight hockey players poisoned by carbon monoxide.
PRAGUE, Czech Republic (AP) - Eight amateur female hockey players were poisoned by carbon monoxide Saturday, apparently from fumes leaked by the ice resurfacing machine. Officials said the women were in stable condition.
The women were playing at a city tournament in Kladno, about 20 miles from Prague. They fainted and were taken to an intensive care unit with severe nausea, said Ladislav Pavlik, spokesman for the city of Kladno, which owns the rink. Pavlik said the women would remain in the hospital at least through the weekend.
``The carbon monoxide was apparently leaking from the ... machine moving around the rink,'' said Pavlik, adding the tournament was canceled.
