Kamppailu elämästä

Yli tasangon aukean kaartuu yö,
kohu kaukana soi, kumisee joka puolla,
kuni suunnaton kummitus liikkuis tuolla,
sysimusta vaippana pilvien yö.

Savu kiirivi yllä maan,
on ilma sähköä tulvillaan,
odotusta ja uhkaa jylhää,
kuin uumenet yön, yön aueta vois,
ja aaveensa kaikki se syöstä sois,
tuho katseessaan,
ja kylvää kostoa ylhää.

Valokeila äkkiä singahtaa,
ja toiset sen tielle pilviin piirtyy,
salamoiden lailla ne säihkyy, siirtyy,
jyly ukkosenmoinen meuruaa.

Tuliputkien liekit lyö,
raekuurot jättiläissiipiä syö,
ja ilmassa räiskyy ja ryskää.

Ja tykkien tahti se kiihtyy vaan,
teräslinnut laskihe luokse maan.

Jo valkenee päivä, ja kauhistuin
se keksivi tuimaksi turman saavan,
kasat löyhkäävien ruumiden täyttävät kentän aavan,
soi valitus, voihke ruhjottuin.

Yli pommikuoppien karttuvain,
yli pirstojen, piikkien raastavain
rivit uudet ne eespäin ryntää
savupilvessä, päivän mi valjuks saa,
tykit kuolemaa syöksevät, järkyy mieli ja maa,
katsot mihin vaan, sitä vaunut ja kranaatit kyntää.
