"(Jul 16) The Vancouver Canucks have yet to make a move on the free agent market this summer, but that could change in a big way if general manager Brian Burke can land the Golden Brett.
According to the Vancouver Province, Burke had discussions about Brett Hull with the star winger's agent, Mike Barnett, over the weekend. There is no word on exactly what the two talked about, but Hull says he would love to join the up-and-coming Canucks.
"I'd be very enthusiastic about coming to a good young team like that," Hull told the Province. "It would give me a huge adrenalin rush again which is what you can use at this stage of your career."
Barnett recently told a Montreal newspaper that there are six teams in the hunt for his client's services, including the Canadiens. Hull is said to covet the San Jose Sharks and the Detroit Red Wings, but he is not ruling out any teams yet, not even Canadian clubs.
"Brett hasn't set any time limit," said Barnett. "Brett wants to take all the time he needs to choose the team that suits him best for the final years of his career."
Hull had 39 goals and 40 assists in 79 games for the Stars last season, and he ranks seventh in NHL history with 649 career goals.
Hull, who turns 37 on Aug. 9, earned $7 million US last season, though he said he would accept less money "to a certain point" in exchange for a two-year deal.
Less money would certainly appeal to the Canucks. Whether or not it would appeal strongly enough to Hull remains to be seen. One factor in Vancouver's favour, however, is Burke's relationship with Hull. Burke was his first agent before switching sides and joining the Canucks front office in 1987. "
Mielenkiintoista, että Hull haluaisi erityisesti Sharkseihin tai Detroitiin. Jos Hull pelaisi haipaidassa vasenta laitaa, olisi kyllä kyseessä contender.
