Are militia's racist organizations?
No. This is a common misconception. Racism is not tolerated in any militia I have personally come into contact with.
It is theoretically possible that there is a racist militia out there somewhere, but this group would not be accepted by the militia community.
This principle is well stated on the
KISSATA web page as "Within the KISS concept, we are all GREEN."
Most militia organizations have a strict policy statement against discrimination.
The
Mission Statement of the Kentucky State Militia states:
We accept and welcome all who wish to preserve our freedoms and maintain a civilization we can be proud to leave our children and grandchildren; regardless of race, sex, or religion. We maintain a firm belief that every man, woman, or family may live, worship, and teach their children as they wish for so long as it respects the personal rights and beliefs of others. Every individual is entitled to his or her own opinion and is under no requirement to explain that opinion to others. However, as a group, KSM will not tolerate racism, anti-Semitism, or prejudice of sex. All are welcome and will be treated with respect. If you are interested, but have reservations based on the stereotypical, "militias are hate mongers, racists, and backwoods idiots running around shooting in the woods," descriptions constantly purported in our liberal news medias, then I challenge you personally to see for yourself. Your privacy is assured and there are no records or paper trails that can be used to track our members.
The
General Elements of a Militia Organization from the North Carolina Citizen Militia states:
With very few restrictions, membership in the militia must be open to all citizens regardless of race, sex, religion or political affiliation. Units not open to public membership and/or which are organized for any purpose other than the support of Constitutional principals may be considered private armies and are not to be confused with the Constitutional "unorganized" militia.
The
Home Page of the Michigan Militia states:
Everyone is welcome, regardless of race, creed, color, tint, or hue; regardless of your religion (or lack thereof); regardless of your political affiliation (or lack thereof); regardless of anything else: if you are an American, who is capable of bearing arms, or wishes to support someone doing so, then you ARE the militia...
The
Home Page of the Tall Grass Guard of the Nebraska State Militia states:
We welcome Americans of all races, cultures, and beliefs; we gain nothing from turning anyone away, regardless of the hue of their skin. We do not side ourselves with, advocate, or discriminate against any one particular race or culture; the militia is as diverse as the general population.
There are, however, individuals or groups that claim to be militias that say they are of a superior race fighting the "great race war...to annihilate the mud people". These individuals or groups are not militias - they are racists.
The

The

We support a Constitutionally limited government and defend the American ideals of Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. We are open to all Indiana citizens regardless of religion, race, creed, or sex. The militia, as an organization, has no religious theme; is not racial in nature; nor does it advocate terrorism or violence.
Title 10: Section 311 of the United States Code states:
The militia of the United States consists of all able-bodied
males at least 17 years of age and, except as provided in
section 313 of title 32, under 45 years of age who are, or who have made a declaration of intention to become, citizens of the United States and of female citizens of the United States who are members of the National Guard.
However,
in practice this rule of law is innocently ignored. Title 10 of the U.S. Code
clearly should be updated to reflect modern sensibilities. This has not yet been accomplished.
Similarly, the age restrictions of Title 10 are usually ignored. When Title 10 was written, 45 was a very advanced age. In the current century, 45 year olds are just getting started in life!
The modern militia is open to Americans of all colors, races, sexes, ages, and abilities. Everyone has something to contribute.
