<BR>March 9 — A report in the Edmonton Journal says Mario Lemieux, Chris Pronger, Rob Blake, Paul Kariya, Joe Sakic, Scott Niedermayer and Steve Yzerman will be on Canada’s Olympic team for the 2002 Games in Salt Lake City.
<BR>
<BR>TEAM CANADA, WHICH is headed by executive director Wayne Gretzky, has until March 25 to select the first eight players for next year’s Olympic men’s hockey team.
<BR> The Journal says the eighth player has yet to be decided, but leading candidates include Owen Nolan, Al MacInnis, Keith Primeau and Pierre Turgeon.
<BR> All participating nations must name their full 23-man rosters — three goalies, seven defensemen and 13 forwards — by Dec. 22.
<BR> The defending champion Czech Republic has already announced its first eight players, which include Jaromir Jagr and Dominik Hasek.
