Jagr can’t play

Jaromir Jagr, supposed to start for the World Team on a line with the Panthers’ Pavel Bure and Colorado’s Peter Forsberg in Sunday’s All-Star Game, had to pull out because of a concussion. The Pittsburgh star was rammed into the boards Wednesday by Philadelphia’s Todd Fedoruk.
Boston’s Sergei Samsonov gets Jagr’s spot on the team. A decision of who will start in Jagr’s place will be made today.
Bure measured

Bure will be one of four today and Sunday to wear a patch in his helmet that will track his speed and total distance skated. The technology is by Trakus Inc. and will be used for the first time in a broadcast this weekend.
Fans will learn Bure’s peak speeds in the game as well as how many miles and yards he skates.
The statistics will be used by the commentators and illustrated through on-screen graphics. Also being tracked is Colorado’s Ray Bourque, the Rangers’ Theo Fleury and Detroit’s Nicklas Lidstrom.

With St. Louis’ Al MacInnis not here because of an eye injury, there will be a new hardest-shot champion. MacInnis has won four in a row and six overall. MacInnis won last year’s event by eclipsing 100 mph for the second time.
In the teams’ skills competitions, Tampa Bay’s Fredrik Modin had the hardest shot at 102.1. Los Angeles’ Rob Blake is also among the favorites.
