Joel Kiviranta: Dallas’ best player in the tournament, which you could’ve predicted simply by looking at his age and resume. The older Finn looked comfortable in his North American debut and plays a style that fits with the relentless mentality that Dallas coach Jim Montgomery wants to preach. He scored a hat trick against the Rangers and was a scoring threat in all four games. He’s not going to play a top-six role if he makes the NHL team, but he has a real chance to reach the league based off this springboard.
“I really enjoyed seeing Kiviranta in this tournament because I hadn’t seen much of him before,” Stars director of amateur scouting Joe McDonnell said. “He’s an older guy and was more of a find for our pro scouting guys, so I had seen him in spots. But this was the first chance to really see him up close like that. He’s a player. I think Dallas has a good one.”
