Greetings my Finnish friends! I\'m afraid I don\'t speak any Finnish, so please bear with me.

I was just wondering how Tommi Santala (HPK) and Samu Isosalo (Rauman Lukko) were playing this year? My favorite NHL team, the Atlanta Thrashers, has drafted both of these players, so I\'m interested in their progress.
23. Samu Isosalo Lukko 31 1 + 1 = 2 37 min
Ranking is on their own team.
Isosalo served 5 match suspension in autumn when he started a fight against Brett Lievers (Kärpät)

Greets. Quite good effort that you´ve got yourself logged in, although you dont know any finnish .
Tommi Santala had quite a struggle on the early season putting off with the responsibility of being first center pick for Hpk. As the time went on he started to gain his last seasons standard in which he really was great as second center pick after Roman Simicek (Nashville). He´s getting there now, but the pressures are quite high. We in Hämeenlinna (hpk) expect quite much of our team and that puts lots of pressures to our young 1st center.

Isosalo plays in 4th line, so he doesn\'t get much icetime. He also plays in A-juniors...
He is usually in bench so those 31 games this season doesn\'t tell the whole truth...or something like that...

Thanks all of you who responded! I\'ve got the statistics sites for both HPK and Rauman Lukko bookmarked, so I knew about their numbers. I appreciate your efforts, though. I was mostly looking for qualitative, as opposed to quantitative, feedback. I figured Isosalo was probably not playing much as he\'s still very young. Glad to hear Santala\'s getting back on track. We have one Finnish player on our roster, Tomi Kallio. He broke his collarbone in December and couldn\'t play for about a month and a half, but he\'s starting to get back into form. He\'s a very exciting, young player. I\'m sure all you SM-Liiga fans know him well! (Our apologies to TPS fans for \"borrowing\" him!)
It took me a little longer to figure out how to register here, but I was able to do it! It helps that when you point your mouse on \"lähetä uusi viesti,\" it says \"new topic\" in the URL window at the bottom of the browser. Likewise, I know now that \"vastaa viestiin\" means \"reply.\" I should be fluent in ... Suomese? ... in just a few more days!

Just a bit more on Santala to add to Noose\'s comments. He\'s been playing on the first line with Tomas Vlasak (returnee from the Kings). Gets a lot of ice time, especially on special teams. Runs the power play with Vlasak. Takes over half of his teams face-offs and takes almost all of them when short-handed or in the final minutes of periods and games. A very versatile player who\'s showed that he has the skills to play both great defense and offense. Excellent grinder in the corners, manages to get the pucks to his line-mates who don\'t do very well in one-on-one battles. The centermen for HPK have to play quite a lot of defense and Tommi has done that job very well.

He struggled quite a lot at the start of the season as his line changed every match. Was a disappointment on offense but still did his job on defense. After Vlasak came back from the Kings he got last year\'s line-mates back together. Was the best player in the league for a two week stint in January. He has very good skills and uses his size well. Doesn\'t hit that much though. Very good back-checker, always the first guy in his own end. Decent shot, nothing special there. Not a stickhandler by anyone\'s standards but great at making room for other guys. A supreme agitator, making the other guys\' blood boil. Manages to get a lot of penalties for the other team when they get fed up with him. Took a few dives too many for my liking but has toned that down lately.

Would\'ve probably been in the national team but was a little too late with his awakening. We\'re a little afraid that he\'s playing too well right now. Because the way things are going at the moment it looks like you\'ll be \"borrowing\" him sooner rather than later. I hope that he\'ll play next year here and then he might be ready for a move across the Atlantic.

We also have stats for these two guys - and all others on this site:

Thanks, Flonaldo! Tommi sounds very much like he\'d be perfect for the NHL as it\'s a bit more physical than the European leagues. Every NHL team needs an agitator like him. If it makes you feel better, I doubt very much he will play over here in North America next year because I haven\'t heard Don Waddell, the Thrashers\' general manager, mention anything bringing him over. He has mentioned the possibility of bringing over Daniel Tjärnqvist, a defenseman playing in the Swedish Elitserien, but he\'s said nothing about Santala.

I think it\'s a pretty safe bet Tommi will be back with HPK next year.

Quick question ...

Flonaldo, I know a guy that has a website that is dedicated to Thrashers\' prospects. He has a little page for each player we\'ve drafted or signed. Do you mind if he uses what you wrote here for his page on Santala?

The URL is: www.smirkinchicken.com
Yeah, of course he can use that. No problem there, just mention me as the writer. I quickly glanced at the site and noticed that he had Santala listed as a winger. And he\'s very much a center, not a winger.
