Selanne is an unrestricted free agent after next season, and the Ducks may not be willing to go through the same contract song-and-dance the Kings are presently mired in with Blake. McKenzie claims the Ducks are \"in the process of considering the possibility of trading Selanne\", but only for the right price. He notes the St. Louis Blues continue to be in the forefront of the rumours regarding \"the Finnish Flash\", based on their depth of young prospects.

<BR>The Blues could be a logical fit, given that young talent. However, two things could work against them, should the Ducks decide to put Selanne on the block. One, the Ducks may be loath to trade him to a Western Conference team, which the Blues are. Second, the Blues would see their payroll increase by a sizeable amount if they decided to take on Selanne\'s $8 million US salary. Yes, the Blues have deep-pocketed new ownership, but GM Larry Pleau built his Cup contender by practicing fiscal responsibility for the most part. A more likely destination could be the New York Rangers, who are in the Eastern Conference, can easily absorb Selanne\'s salary, and might be willing to part with a young roster player (Hlavac? Dvorak? York?) and a prospect or two (Malholtra? Lundmark? Brendl?) to get him.
